From
Bend:
From Bend, take highway 97 north to
Madras. At the north end of
Madras (just before McDonalds) veer to the right and continue on 97 (if
you see Safeway on your right…you missed the turn…Safeway should be on
your left as you head up 97) Follow 97 for approximately 24
miles. Just past a rest area (on your left) will be the junction
of 197 (to Maupin and The Dalles) take a CAREFUL left onto paved 197
(don’t take the dirt road to South Junction!). Watch this
intersection and don’t sit in the turn lane…trucks have a tendency to
cut this corner. Continue on this highway for 22 miles and you
will drop down into the town of Maupin. You’ll see our campground
on your left when you come down the hill towards the river. Continuing
on highway 197, The Oasis Resort (café and cabins) is the
first business on your right just past the 'Entering Maupin'
sign. This is where your fishing trip will start, unless I’ve
told you otherwise.
From
Portland:
There are two routes to take to
Maupin from Portland
- over Mt. Hood or through the Columbia Gorge. Both routes are
beautiful drives and they are almost the same distance and driving
time. (Approx. 120 miles / 2 hrs.) From the Portland
airport, the Gorge is somewhat more direct.
Over Mt.
Hood:
Take Hwy 26 over Mt. Hood.
Continue on this highway past the community of Government Camp and stay
on Hwy 26 following signs to Maupin/Madras/Bend. Approx. 16 Miles
beyond Government Camp, take a left at the Hwy. 216 turn off. The
sign will say Bear Springs / Maupin. Follow Hwy 216 down the
mountain, through the community of Pine Grove and to the T intersection
with Hwy. 197. Take a right on Hwy. 197 and drive 3 miles into
Maupin. Continue on this highway through the small town of Maupin
and you will cross the Deschutes River. Stay on the main
highway. Watch on your left for The Oasis Resort (café
with cabins) - we are the 5th business on your left after you cross the
river. This is where your fishing trip will start, unless I’ve told you
otherwise.
Through the
Columbia Gorge:
From the Portland airport, take
205 South to the I-84. Take I-84 East 84 miles to the town of The
Dalles. Take the 3rd
exit at The Dalles - exit #87. Signs will direct you
to Hwy. 197/ Dufur /Bend. Follow Hwy 197 South for 37
miles. You will drop down into the town of Maupin. Continue
on Hwy. 197 through the town of Maupin and you will cross the Deschutes River. Stay on the main
highway. Watch on your left for
The Oasis Resort (café with cabins) - we are the 5th business on
your left after you cross the river. This is where your fishing trip
will start, unless I’ve told you otherwise.
